Maternity Portraits for Natasha...

Yesterday I had the pleasure of shooting with Natasha again. I photographed her about a year ago, it was a small test shoot to try out some new backgrounds and lighting ideas that I had at the time. I recently discovered that she was pregnant and we got to talking and decided to do some maternity portraits. The session was a lot of fun, Natasha is a great model! Here is one quick image from our shoot yesterday!

Toronto Raptors v Washington Wizards 1/7/09 & Canon 5D MK II Samples

Yesterday evening the Wizards lost another game in there not so great season, this time to Toronto. On a side note; We hired a Canon EOS 5D MK II for the game to test to see if it would work well as a remote or as a hand held camera. Unfortunately it did not seem to sync up with our strobes very well. It is however a very good available light camera, and all those megapixels are nice to have! The following images were all shot at ISO2500! And they look amazing! This camera is obviously going to be an incredible camera for portraits and great as a documentary camera, although not so great as a sports camera, but then again, that is not the intended purpose.

Headshots for Ashley Y. - NYC Actress...

This weekend I had a headshot session with NYC based Actress Ashley Y. This picture is just a quickly edited shot from the session, I love her freckles and her smiles, some of her best smiles came about when she was just about to laugh, luckily she laughed a lot! It was a great pleasure to shoot her headshots. Keep an eye on her resume; I'm sure she'll go far!

Headshots for Ashley G. - In Ohio of all places...

Whilst I was in Ohio over Christmas (not my favourite place to be) I shot some headshots for a friend of mine. We drove over to a place called Granville which is a small town close to the campus of Denison. They have nice backgrounds all over the place and I was feeling pretty good about getting some nice environmental headshots to put in my portfolio. However, on the day we chose to shoot, Boxing Day (26th Dec), it was throwing it down with rain. So we only had one location we could use, a small gazebo that was on the ground of an inn that we walked past. I could not get all the shots I wanted but I think we came up with some good images considering what we had to deal with it was also really, really cold!). I tried a couple of different things for the background; under-exposing, over-exposing... I think I liked it more when the backgrounds were under-exposed, it made Ashley pop out from the image a little more.

Here is one of my favourites from the session;

Happy New Year - Self portrait and musings...

Happy new year to you all, first of all I am sorry if you are a regular viewer of this blog (I really don't think there are any regular viewers but you never know) and are wondering where all the previous postings have gone. I have deleted them so to bring everything to a standard format. I will be launching my new website within the next month thanks to the people over at Livebooks and I wanted my blog not only to match, but I now have a new typographic logo and want that to be standard on all the images I post here. That being said I will need to delete images that do not fall in line.

So here we go, first image not only of the new standardized blog but also of the new year. I felt it apt that it is a self portrait. Just a quick portrait in the studio, one light, nothing fancy.
